Business Continuity

Professional Information operates with highly robust telephony and IT systems as part of its powerful business continuity processes.

Telephony

Continuity of the telephone service is critical for the business. We currently utilise two different telephone technologies; ISDN30 and internet telephony(SIP) to ensure day to day operations can continue in case of a single failure. Both of these technologies arrive at Professional Information via totally independent routes from different BT exchanges thereby reducing the chance of losing both simultaneously.

To further bolster the reliability/continuity we also have two additional failover systems in place; an analogue telephone system for use at the Professional Information office and a DR Internet Telephony system.

IT

Alongside our telephone system, data is key to business operations. All data is stored on servers utilising windows permissions to allow/deny access as appropriate. Physically the data is saved across several hard drives. These have been configured to allow the replacement of any single drive (while running) without loss of access to data or loss of the data itself.

Our server centre utilises virtual technology to create a very stable environment which incorporates High Availability and Failover Capability; if one physical server fails the others take over the processing of the data and keep operations running.

Data is backed up in a multitude of ways to accomodate different continuity/disaster recovery scenarios.

The computer network sits behind a dedicated Unified Threat Managment device which comprises a Firewall, Antivirus scanning, E-mail Anti Spam scanning, Intrusion Detection and Prevention.

An on-site generator is able to power the entire Professional Information operation, including telephony and IT systems, in case of power outage.
